Doctoral Research, Projects & other Research Activities
DOCTORAL RESEARCH:
During June 2002, Mangalore University, Mangalagangotri has awarded Ph.D. degree in Library and Information Science to me for my doctoral research study on “Quality of Library and Information Services: A study of Customer Satisfaction in Academic Libraries”. The study was carried out considering libraries attached to postgraduate institutes situated in Undivided Dakshina Kannada District of Karnataka under the guidance of Dr. D. Shivalingaiah, Reader in department of Library and Information Science, Mangalore University, Mangalagangotri.
RESEARCH PROJECTS:
1. (2010): Submitted a research proposal on “Developing Digital Libraries Using OSS: Training Staff in Technical and Management Libraries to AICTE seeking financial assistance. The result is awaited.
2. (2010) consolidated and coordinated the research proposals submitted to AICTE by other faculty members. The consolidation included uniformating, attachment of institute’s profile and other documents and concert the document into PDF format.
3. (2010) submitted an initial proposal on “Consortium of Manipal Institutions including libraries” to director for taking forward it with Manipal University authorities.
4. (2007) Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India, New Delhi has Awarded a major research project to TAPMI to study “Impact of Technology on Quality of Services in Technical and Management Libraries in Karnataka” with Manjunatha as principal investigator. The project was sactioned under TIFP scheme. The research project has been successfully completed and final report has been submitted to DSIR with several recommendations during February 2007 for devising action plans. 5. (2007) Proposal was Submitted to DSIR Training Library Professionals for Developing Digital Library Using OSS: Dr. Manjunatha has submitted a proposal to DSIR seeking financial grant from DISR for conducting workshops to train Librarians for developing digital library using open source softwares like GSDL and Dspace. The award of projects from DSIR is awaited.
6. (2008) Research on Road Accidents ongoing: Dr. Manjunatha is currently engaged in research study on analyzing pattern of road accidents happened in Karnataka as reported during the year 2007-08. Dr. Manjuantha and Prof. Sasidhar are involved in this project. the data is being extracted from the daily newspapers namely Udayavani, Vijaya Karnataka, Prajavani, Kannada Prabha, Hosa Digantha, Samyukta Karnataka, Deccan Herald and Indian Express. The research is in progress and the output may lead to a seminar for Road Transport Authorities/ officers.
7. (2005) Project on Technology Audit: Participated as Co-investigator in research project on Technology Audit at MCF sponsored by DSIR, New Delhi. The project was awarded to TAPMI by DSIR, Govt. of India and Prof. Vasudev Rao was the principal investigator. The project was completed and report has been submitted to Govt. in 2005.
MPHIL RESEARCH GUIDANCE:
Recognised as research guide/supervisor by Alagappa University, Karaikudi and Annamalai University, Madhurai, Vinayaka Mission, Salem and Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ananthapur for their MPhil Dissertation work for their distance education in Library information Science.
Six Mphil Students have been graduated from Alagappa University Under his supervision. Two students have been awarded Mphil Degree from Annamalai University, Annmalai Nagar.
OTHER RESEARCH:
(2006-0 8): Worked with Prof. Simon George for his research work for writing a case study on Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.
(2007) submitted a proposal to DSIR requesting Grant for organizing a two days workshop/seminar on “Technology and Libraries” at TAPMI. Though the proposal was independent of previous research project carried out by TAPMI, DSIR felt this workshop proposal as an extension of the project and did not approve it. Instead it hosted the project report on its site for public comments.
